Should You Prune Trees During The Growing Season?

While you often hear us talk about dormant pruning, there are reasons to prune once your trees leaf out. Wondering when you should prune during the growing season vs. dormant season?

  1. If you notice dead, broken or diseased/infested branches, you should remove them as soon as you notice them, regardless of the season.
  2. If you need pruning wounds to begin to seal immediately, you should prune during the active growing season.
  3. If you're pruning for clearance and sightlines, prune April-October so you can see how branches will hang with their leaves in-tact.

If you're not sure when you should prune your tree, contact your local arborist for a free consultation.
