Utility Right of Way Management: Wildlife & Habitat Assessment Protocols

Each year our Davey Utility Solutions teams traverse thousands of miles of right-of-way in the US and Canada as part of our work for our utility partners. In addition to safe, reliable power delivery and compliance standards, there is growing evidence that utility corridors are suitable habitats for species of conservation concern.

Because of their linear nature, they create connectivity in the landscape and ease of travel for migrating and foraging insects and birds, and the use of IVM promotes early successional forbs and habitats suitable for species integral to ecosystem function. Management of rights-of-ways to support biodiversity, with an emphasis on pollinators, is being encouraged by various wildlife programs.
