Walter J. Paton Elementary
Davey Resource Group turned a tree planting into an interactive experience with K-4 students at Walter J. Paton Elementary by allowing the kids to participate in the planting while Davey experts explained the process.
Project Narrative:
Davey Resource Group (DRG) was contracted to plant trees for the Walter J. Paton Elementary School. Our professional arborists chose a variety of tree species to fit the needs of the school. The school expressed an interest in planting flowering tree species within sight of classroom windows to provide children the opportunity of seeing the trees and wildlife attracted to them. In addition to our client’s request, some tree planting sites were located near power lines and DRG’s staff researched and chose low profile trees to meet the site needs. Eric Comeau and Brian Scholten of DRG in MA planted these trees around the grounds of the school.
Expanding Knowledge & Urban Tree Canopy
During the planting, Elise LeBlanc and Caitlin Alesbrook of DRG met with students in Kindergarten to 4th-grade classes to explain the tree planting process. Each classroom joined our arborists to watch the tree planting process and hear about why trees are so important as well as the special characteristics of the species being planted on site. Students also had the chance to share their knowledge of trees and ask questions of the DRG arborists about trees, species, and the importance they bring to communities.
