ReLeaf Michigan
DRG and ReLeaf Michigan have jointly implemented a program in Michigan and northern Indiana, providing community forestry data, training, and volunteer tree planting to small communities.
Urban Forestry Outreach
For years, DRG and ReLeaf Michigan have collaborated on a program offering small communities in Michigan and northern Indiana community forestry data, training, and volunteer tree planting initiatives. The program, spanning Saginaw Bay, Grand Traverse Bay, Lower Grand River, and St. Joe River Watersheds, includes urban tree canopy assessments, prioritized planting plans, and an online platform for communities with limited GIS capacity. Onsite workshops strengthen the link between trees and water quality. ReLeaf Michigan then collaborates with communities to execute volunteer tree-planting efforts. Funded by various partners, including the U.S. Forest Service and EPA, the program has gained recognition in articles and conferences. An example watershed report is available at www.lowergrandcanopy.weebly.com.
