The Somerville Landfill is being redeveloped as a solar array field. DRG conducted wetland and state open water delineation, provided regulatory permitting services, and ensured no solar panels are placed in wetlands. DRG also prepared and submitted multiple NJDEP permit applications.
Staying In Compliance For Redevelopment
The Somerville Landfill is slated for redevelopment as a solar array field per its approved closure plan. To meet NJDEP requirements, Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) conducted wetland and state open water (SOW) delineation and provided regulatory permitting services. No solar panels will be placed in wetlands or transition areas.
DRG identified the location and extent of freshwater wetlands at the site and submitted an application to NJDEP for a Regulatory Line Verification Letter of Interpretation (RLV LOI). DRG also prepared an environmental report for an NJDEP Flood Hazard Area Individual Permit application and applied for NJDEP Freshwater Wetlands General Permits 5 (landfill closure) and 21 (above-ground utility lines).
Ensuring Project Process Through Permitting
After performing additional wetland and SOW delineation, DRG amended its NJDEP FWW GP application and applied for General Permit 2 (underground utility lines) to connect electricity generated in the east cell to the power grid and for General Permit 11 (outfalls/intake structures) for stormwater management. DRG also guided the preparation of an NJDEP FWW GP 12 application for surveying and investigating.
