Boardman Township, OH
DRG provided surveying, engineering, and construction management services for four flood hazard mitigation projects in the Cranberry Run Watershed of Boardman Township, OH.
A Flood Of Challenges
Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) surveyed, engineered and managed construction for four flood hazard mitigation projects in the Cranberry Run Watershed. The highly channelized stream in a Boardman neighborhood caused flooding during heavy rains. Grant funding allowed the township to purchase floodplain properties, and DRG designed an ecological restoration for flood reduction. Boardman received funding from a FEMA Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant.
A Detailed Approach
The design focused on specific parcels, requiring the engineering team to create flood storage without expanding the project area. Limited haul-off due to grant funding necessitated minimal excavation. A grading plan for five sites allowed the stream to access its floodplain during rain events. A landscaping plan used native plants for low maintenance. Floodplain storage and wetland habitat mitigated downstream flooding. The design included removing and replacing an existing dam with a naturalized stream channel. DRG assisted in contractor selection and provided construction oversight.
