Beyond Housing
Beyond Housing, aided by an EPA grant, aimed to enhance community forestry in 24:1 area communities. They partnered with DRG to conduct a tree canopy assessment, produce tailored reports, and develop visual tools for local planning, emphasizing equity and community engagement.
Supporting An Expanding Urban Forest
After being awarded a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency, Beyond Housing—a community development organization aimed to help 24:1 area communities become better places to live—looked to expand their forestry efforts by increasing part-time staff, expanding education and certification initiatives for residents and local government officials, and developing plans for the expansion of tree planting and conservation. Beyond Housing contracted Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) to support this effort to plan and implement a tree canopy assessment, analyze the assessment data, and provide information that the city forester can use for local planning.
Focusing On Equity
DRG completed the canopy assessment with a particular focus on equity for the 24:1 area. Taking particular consideration for usability, DRG developed two separate reports for two different audiences—a technical report for forestry and ecology professionals and a community report for public stakeholders. Further, DRG delivered an online storymap and TreeKeeper® canopy system as a visual and multimodal companion to the reporting.
To exceed expectations, DRG’s marketing team collaborated closely with their Beyond Housing counterparts to ensure the report design aligned appropriately with the client’s branding guidelines.
