Amtrak
Davey Resource Group performed a wetland delineation and prepared Categorical Exclusion documentation to help Amtrak provide a trackside wireless broadband network. With their comprehensive approach, DRG was able to meet schedule milestones efficiently.
Expertise To Boost Connectivity
In 2015, Amtrak initiated a Proof of Concept (PoC) for a broadband wireless trackside network (TSN) across a nine-mile stretch of the Northeast Corridor (NEC) in New Castle County, DE, testing a high-speed connection between passenger trains and waysides. Following the successful PoC, Amtrak expanded the TSN, managed by Davey Resource Group (DRG) in a phased, multi-year project. Covering approximately 18 miles, with 22 base stations at eight intervals along the NEC, the TSN ensures a private, dedicated broadband connection for trains traveling at speeds up to 160 MPH. DRG secured environmental approvals, conducting wetland delineations for 22 sites and preparing Categorical Exclusion documentation, adhering to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements. FCC-licensed sites were reviewed for compliance with FCC NEPA and National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) regulations. The documentation, including Environmental Screening Memorandums, addressed various environmental aspects, and DRG's comprehensive approach earned commendation for meeting schedule milestones. The project has been successfully constructed and is operational.
