Versant Power
DRG quickly built up Versant Power’s vegetation work management system in ResourceKeeper, helping the utility simplify its tree trimming efforts.
The Challenge
Utility vegetation management requires close collaboration between utility operations and vegetation contractors as they work to tackle thousands of tree trimming jobs over a diverse footprint. Identifying locations where line clearance is needed and executing routine maintenance while staying on schedule and budget is a tall order. Adding in additional scopes of work like notifying customers, performing tree assessments, and denoting areas of concern add to this complexity. One way to ensure all aspects of a vegetation management plan are running smoothly is the use of a work management system to keep track of progress.
After hearing positive feedback from industry peers about Davey Resource Group’s (DRG’s) proprietary ResourceKeeper software, Versant Power partnered with DRG to integrate their vegetation management data into the tool.
The Solution
DRG began working with Versant to build its vegetation work management system in November 2023. DRG’s Software Solutions team used Versant’s existing right-of-way (ROW) data for 6,000 miles of their overhead lines in their territory in Maine to show the utility’s team the full scale of capabilities for vegetation work management in ResourceKeeper. To meet Versant’s deadlines, DRG was able to establish the system in just 3 weeks, deploying the full system solution by the end of 2023.
In the new system, the utility’s vegetation management team will be able to gather vegetation data, create work orders, keep track of workflow, and generate reports using one paperless suite of tools.
The Results
With a multi-faceted work management system in place, Versant is now able to simplify its vegetation management efforts by having easy-to-access software on hand that makes all of its vegetation management data and work progress readily available.
DRG will be able to easily integrate ResourceKeeper into the utility’s internal GIS platforms, allowing them the additional benefit of insight into their data across different operations. Because of how pleased the utility is with the software, DRG and Versant’s partnership will continue to grow throughout 2024 and beyond.
