Public Service Company Of New Mexico
Davey Resource Group, Inc. performs a detailed review of Public Service Company of New Mexico’s joint-use applications, ensuring communications companies and other service providers can safely attach to PNM’s poles.
The Challenge
Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM) is the state’s largest energy provider, supplying more than 525,000 residential and business customers power throughout the state daily. With the market’s demand for innovation in the utility industry, PNM’s goal is to connect its customers to the latest technologies as soon as possible.
Entities attaching devices to utility poles must follow a specific application process to connect communication lines to PNM’s poles. To make sure this application process runs smoothly, PNM partnered with Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG) to perform a full-service make-ready joint-use application review process.
The Solution
DRG performs the application review for PNM’s southern and northern service areas as well as Albuquerque, which is the largest city in the state by population. The team uses field attachment data gathered from PNM-approved third-party contractors, including information about what equipment is on the pole, the environment surrounding the pole, the proposed line, utility attachment standards, and remedial solutions. The data is used to provide a safe and reliable attachment installation process for its licensees.
DRG’s employee’s reviews all applications to ensure the planned pole attachments meet the utility’s and the Federal Communications Commission’s guidelines and perform post-construction monitoring to make sure the attachments are properly installed and don’t interfere with other lines or nearby vegetation.
The Result
DRG has performed application reviews since October 2019. As of April 2021, the DRG employee has reviewed applications for 1,500 poles and the process is on-going.
The collaboration effort by DRG and PNM has yielded positive benefits for PNM and their customers. By going beyond a simple application review process and taking an active role in post-construction monitoring to ensure work was done appropriately, DRG provides PNM confidence that attachments are performed effectively from cradle to grave while ensuring safety for the attachers while installations are performed.
