Mid-American Electric Company
When high winds posed a challenge for MidAmerican Electric Company to accomplish their bare ground herbicide program, they utilized Davey Resource Group’s expertise, variety of equipment, and local crews to get the job done efficiently.
The Challenge
MidAmerican Electric Company (MEC) provides energy to 1.6 million customers, and delivering that energy unimpeded is a top priority. MEC created a substation bareground herbicide application program to apply pre- and post-emergent herbicide to control undesirable vegetation. However, their desired timeframe for the project was threatened by record high wind speeds that slashed the available time for application.
The Solution
MEC brought on Davey Resource Group (DRG) to handle their herbicide application needs, trusting in their local crews and innovative equipment. With 1,000 acres needing to be sprayed and wind speeds sometimes clocking above 20 mph, DRG needed to use their expertise and experience to be as efficient as possible to complete the project.
DRG was able to provide custom tracking with their in-house right-of-way management software, ResourceKeeper, and a local crew to handle the task. Pre-blended herbicides were applied with a variety of equipment from a UTV with a spray ring to a pickup truck with a boom sprayer. All of these elements were carefully picked by DRG to complete the project within the shorter timeframe.
The Result
With the help of DRG’s timesaving measures, MEC was able to complete the herbicide application for the year. With an ongoing relationship of 8 years, MEC knows they can rely on DRG for solutions to their challenges with innovation and expertise.
