Arcadis
DRG and ISA partnership bolsters workforce to address Camp Fire aftermath.
Challenge
California created a State Hazard Removal Project to remove burned trees on residents’ properties following the devastating 2018 Camp Fire. Arcadis, an engineering and management consulting company, led contractors tasked with identifying hazard trees for later removal. Arborists were required to be Tree Risk Assessment Qualification (TRAQ) certified, but International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) classes had been canceled for months due to Covid-19, limiting the available number of TRAQ certified arborists.
Solution
Davey Resource Group, Inc. (DRG), having helped in virtual conferences during Covid-19, worked with ISA to set up private, socially distanced classes to TRAQ certify more arborists. DRG arborists then worked on Arcadis’ contract with California, marking hazard trees that were burned during the Camp Fire. Their work helped California residents enrolled in the governmental program keep their surroundings safe from tree failure at no personal cost.
Result
DRG values long-term industry relationships which proved a strength in contributing qualified experts to their client Arcadis. DRG and Arcadis’ work on the State Hazard Removal Project had the larger impact of improving the safety of California residents.
