American Electric Power
Davey Resource Group located potential wetland mitigation sites and presented options to AEP.
The Challenge
As part of the permitting process associated with construction and improvements on two different electricity lines within the same watershed, American Electric Power (AEP) was required to provide compensatory wetland mitigation. AEP needed two mitigation plans in order to secure permits for construction. The mitigation plans had to be implemented to maintain compliance with the permits once obtained.
The Solution
Davey Resource Group located potential wetland mitigation sites and presented options to AEP. Davey Resource Group then developed two mitigation plans for different areas on the same site to create, restore, and enhance existing wetland. Davey Resource Group obtained approval for construction of wetlands on the approximately 20-acre mitigation site from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources Division of Water and local governing entities. A Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan was developed, and construction commenced to return a former agricultural field to native wetland and upland plant communities.
The Results
AEP was able to obtain US Army Corps of Engineers and Indiana Department of Environmental Management permits for construction on the existing electric lines and is maintaining compliance with long-term requirements of those permits.
