Johns Hopkins Hospital & Health System
Davey’s long-term partnership with two Johns Hopkins medical facilities allows patients, staff, and visitors to access the facilities safely regardless of weather conditions.
Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System is a world-renowned hospital system and medical school with a rich history that includes philanthropy, medical education, research, and clinical care. Opening in 1889, Johns Hopkins is the home of many breakthroughs in the medical field, including being known as the first major medical school in the United States to admit women, the first to use rubber gloves during surgery, and the birthplace of medical specialties such as neurosurgery, urology, endocrinology, and pediatrics.
Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System now includes six academic and community hospitals, four suburban health care and surgery centers, over 40 patient care locations, a home care group, and an international division. Headquartered in Baltimore, MD, Johns Hopkins has locations all over the Washington, DC and Baltimore areas.
With such a prestigious reputation to uphold, Johns Hopkins prioritizes patient comfort, care, and safety. This goes beyond the medical facility doors and into the public outdoor spaces with zero-tolerance policies for snow and ice removal during the winter season to ensure patients and visitors can access the facilities safely.
Prescribing Snow & Ice Management Solutions
Davey Tree provides snow and ice management at Sibley Memorial Hospital, a Johns Hopkins branch in Washington, DC. Davey’s partnership with Sibley started in 2004.
At Sibley, crews have the unique responsibility of clearing the helipad for emergency aircraft along with the parking lots, sidewalks, and driveways surrounding the facility.
The zero-tolerance policy requires crews to mobilize quickly in the event of snow or ice and continually clear areas frequently used by patients, staff, and visitors until the weather passes.
Since the partnership with Sibley began, Davey has plowed and treated approximately 250 inches of snowfall.
Davey uses multiple mechanical and chemical controls to perform snow removal services. Bulk salt and palletized magnesium and calcium chloride are delivered to the site ahead of the upcoming snow season to its designated holding area. Equipment for snow removal services ranges from 4x4 trucks with plows, to hand labor, as well as UTV and other all-terrain side-by-side vehicles to achieve snow removal and control.
A Trusted Partner
Davey understands how important it is for Sibley to have accessible and safe parking lots, walkways, and other forms of entry regardless of weather conditions. By demonstrating their expertise, being communicative, and being transparent, Davey has solidified this partnership to provide snow and ice removal services for the long term.
