Chippenham Hospital
Davey’s existing partnership with Chippenham Hospital in Richmond, VA allowed them to oversee construction of a new patio and manage landscape enhancements.
Chippenham Hospital, an HCA Virginia Hospital System facility, has been committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services to patients in Central Virginia since 1972. The hospital is a Level I Trauma Center, and its most visited facilities include an emergency room and a pediatric emergency room. But Chippenham also specializes in a wide variety of medical care, such as cardiology, orthopedic care, and sports medicine.
Like its sister facilities in the HCA Virginia system, Chippenham prioritizes the health and wellness of the community it serves. This is reflected in their landscape, tended to by Davey. Since November 2023, Davey crews perform a gamut of services, from snow and ice management, to turf care and irrigation, to flower rotations, mulch, and pruning for Chippenham.
Davey and Chippenham quickly built a strong relationship based on trust and communication. Because of this existing reliable partnership, Chippenham called on Davey to renovate a concrete patio outside of the cafeteria area.
A Breath Of Fresh Air
In March 2024, Davey crews oversaw the removal of the former concrete patio, a retaining wall, and railing. They then managed construction of the new patio, including gravel installation, a new drainage system, permeable pavers, new walkways, and new railing.
The new stormwater management system allows water to divert into drains and permeable pavement and stored in three basins and a dry well. With the new drainage system, Chippenham stays committed to their zero-tolerance policy by decreasing the risk of slips and falls on water-slicked or icy surfaces.
Construction of the 2,000 square feet patio was completed in a month. Davey crews are currently on-site installing new irrigation systems, planting trees and flowers, and removing existing turf to install sod. Davey also installed a new canopy to cover the patio during inclement weather.
Creating More Space
The patio is currently open to the public. Chippenham celebrated its opening with a welcome barbecue in late June 2024.
Because of Davey’s efficient work and understanding of Chippenham’s goals, HCA Virginia has asked them to renovate an outdoor space at another medical facility within their family.
