Akron Children's Hospital
Davey crews are on-site 365 days a year to perform grounds maintenance, snow and ice removal, and more for the largest pediatric healthcare system in northeast Ohio.
Akron Children’s Hospital in Ohio has been caring for their local community’s children since 1890. With 6 regional health centers and more than 50 primary and specialty locations throughout the state, Akron Children’s has helped more than a million patients per year. As part of its mission, Akron Children’s wants to create an accessible and inclusive health system in the communities it serves. This vision of easy, safe, and navigable grounds goes beyond facility doors and into its outdoor spaces.
Since 2014, Davey has had a site-dedicated crew staged on location at Akron Children’s Hospital (ACH) to provide commercial grounds management for the bustling urban main campus. As the largest pediatric healthcare system in northeast Ohio, the hospital’s goal is to provide a safe, therapeutic atmosphere with a top-notch appearance and minimal environmental impact. With Davey’s unmatched diversity of services, ACH could keep up with its ever-expanding campus during all four seasons.
Landscape Maintenance With Surgical Precision
Davey’s ACH crew is on-site at the 289-bed hospital 365 days a year from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. performing scheduled landscape maintenance such as mowing and string trimming, removing trash and litter, pruning shrubs, and clearing snow/ice according to the hospital’s rigid zero-tolerance policy during winter. To provide curb appeal, crews infuse annual color into the campus several times a year through flower bed rotations and maintain irrigation systems for proper watering practices. Environmentally friendly fertilizers and deicing agents are employed to achieve the desired effect, using no more than necessary.
With nonstop activity on the campus, Davey crews must be mindful of patients, staff, and visitors as they work, making sure to avoid disruptions to the hospital’s daily traffic. The hospital’s main campus is just one of several locations Davey crews care for in the ACH system.
A Flourishing Partnership
Second to providing excellent patient care, ACH takes great pains to provide a pleasing, kid-friendly experience for visitors both inside the expansive hospital buildings and outside the campus’s greenspace. In October 2017, Davey Tree was recognized by the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) with a Grand Award for their work maintaining ACH’s outside spaces. Davey is proud of the long-term partnership with ACH and its role in making its campus a beautiful, safe space for children to enjoy during their visit.
