The foliage and blooms that come with the Victoria Day long weekend are always a welcome harbinger of summer weather, but the lush greenery may have also contributed to the devastating damage suffered in eastern Ontario during the derecho storm.

Many trees were completely uprooted during Saturday's derecho storm in Ottawa, while others were toppled, and heavy branches broken throughout the region.
