Twenty-four trees to be planted in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens as a legacy project during the Pan-American Masters Games.
CLEVELAND, OH – May 24, 2024 – Greater Cleveland Sports Commission (GCSC) has a robust history of developing community impact programs to maximize the benefit of hosting an event in Northeast Ohio. GCSC pursued a partnership with the Cleveland Cultural Gardens Federation and The Davey Tree Expert Company to plant 24 trees on Tuesday, May 28, starting at 9 a.m. as a legacy component of the Pan-American Masters Games (PAMG) being held in Cleveland this summer.
“Davey is so pleased to donate and help plant these trees as a celebration of the 24 medal-contending sports in the 2024 Pan-American Masters Games,” said Sandra Reid, vice president of corporate communications and strategic planning at Davey Tree. “We know that they will add a myriad of benefits – including cleaning the air, helping with stormwater runoff and of course adding beauty to the gardens – as they grow and mature.”
The Cleveland Cultural Gardens are one of Northeast Ohio’s oldest landmarks and their mission aligns with GCSC’s programming goals to use the hosting of PAMG to promote internationalism, active aging, and showcase the importance of incorporating sustainability efforts into the planning process.
The 24 trees will be planted on May 28, with a dedication ceremony and unveiling as part of the World on Stage concert series on July 20. All PAMG athletes, supporters, and community members are invited to this free event on July 20 at Centennial Peace Plaza to help celebrate the legacy of PAMG and to enjoy an evening of cultural celebrations.
All trees will be planted near the Centennial Peace Plaza, which serves as a gathering point for events and a central hub for the 36 dedicated gardens, each designed and maintained by distinct cultural or nationality groups.
This project is also supported by Great Lakes Green Events, an initiative developed by the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Governors & Premiers, that implements environmentally sustainable practices and creates a positive legacy by supporting tree planting projects that benefit the local community. Great Lakes Green Events is part of the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Trees Initiative, which aims to plant 250 million trees across the region by 2033.
Media interested in covering the event on May 28, please RSVP to Nicole Carlone Losi at nlosi@clevelandsports.org. The address of the Centennial Peace Plaza is: 1051 Martin Luther King Blvd. (Street parking on East Boulevard: this address would be the Hungarian Garden – 1070 E. Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44108).
